ABOUT THE LOMA PRIETA RESOURCE CONSERVATIONS DISTRICT

THE DISTRICT WILL:

  • Provide an annual report of district activities. 
  • Encourage participation in the use of conservation education programs and materials for all school and community groups in the District. 
  • In coordination with the Santa Clara Valley Water District, University of California Cooperative Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health, Santa Clara County Fire Safe Council, present the Stewardship for Small Acreages Workshops, to promote clean water, erosion control, manure management, and fire safety.
  • Actively participate in the study of Atmospheric Nitrogen Deposition in Southern Santa Clara County, with assistance from Stuart Weiss, Ph.D. 
  • Participate in the review, implementation and completion of the Llagas Creek Flood Control project.
  • Develop an efficient program for the recycling of irrigation drip tape and film mulch for the agricultural community. 
  • Promote water quality in all conservation activities, as related to non-point source pollution.
  • Communicate with legislative representatives on the local, state and national level. 
  • Review Environmental Impact Reports, as requested. 
  • Provide guidance and information to all landowners and or operators within the district. 
  • Assist the Santa Clara County Fire Safe Council in the implementation of the fire management chipping program. 
  • Respond to community concerns of noxious weeds and other related invasive species. 
  • Continue to develop permit coordination to assist landowners in the implementation of environmentally beneficial projects.

BUSINESS OPERATIONS:

  •  Prepare and update the Long Range Plan every five years.  
  • Perform and audit for the State of California Controller/Treasurer every three years. 
  • Maintain and update the lomaprietarcd.org website to publicize special events and conservation opportunities.   
  • Retain a staff secretary for a minimum of 20 hours per week. 
  • Provide 24 hour email accessibility through plm@garlic.com. 
  • Prepare an operating budget and finance district activities according to budgeted items. 
  • Whenever possible, have representation by directors attending and participating in district, area and regional meetings related to conservation issues and concerns. 
  • Hold an open meeting, of the Board of Directors of the Loma Prieta Resource Conservation District, at the district office, every third Wednesday of every month, at 4:30 P.M.

MISSION STATEMENT:

 

  • Emphasize and support a broad based concept of the natural resources planning and development that recognizes the need to efficiently and effectively make use of our resources while conserving them for the long-term future use and protecting the environment for the maximum benefit to all within the District.  Carry out the District’s responsibility for developing watershed and regional type projects, emphasizing the reduction of flood water and sediment damage, control of runoff and reduction of erosion, silt and pollution.
  • Work toward a collaborative working agreement with neighboring Resource Conservation Districts and the Central Coast Resource Conservation and Development Council.
